The NATIONAL STOCK EXCHANGE OF INDIA LIMITED (NSE) is the leading stock exchange of india, located in mumbai. the national stock exchange was established in 1992 as the 
first dematerialized electronic exchange in the country.nse was the first exchange in the country 
to provide modern.fully automated screen-based electronic trading system which offered easy trading facility to the investors spread across the length abd breadth og the country, vikram limaye is the managing director & chief exicutive officer of NATIONAL STOCK EXCHANGE.

The national stock exchange has total market capitalisation of more than US$2.27 trilion, making it 
the world,s 11th- largest stock exchange as of april 2018. nse;s flagship index the nifty 50 stock index is used extensively to investors in india, the nifty50 index was launched in 1996 by the nse,the nse market
represents 63% of total market capitalisation listed on the nse

NATIONAL STOCK EXCHANGE is mainly set up in the early 1990's to brng transparency in the markets instead of trading membership being confined to a group of brokers nse ensured that anyone who was qualified experinced and met minimum financial requirement
was allowed to trade 

NSE was set up by a group of leading indian financial institutions at the bahest of the GOVT of india to bring transparency in the capital market nse has been established with diversified shareholding type comprising domestic and global investors 

The exchange was incorporated in 1992 as tax-paying company and was recognized as a stock exchange 1993. under the securities contract( REGULATION ACT ) 1956. when p.v. narsimharao was the prime minister of india and manmohan singh was the finance minister.
nse also commensed operations in the wholesale debt market.
